University looking for hemp industry guidance to identify research priorities

Michigan State University is looking to the hemp industry to provide guidance on research and outreach needs.

MSU researchers are asking growers who are currently producing or plan to produce hemp for biomass, fiber, grain or CBD to participate in an industrial hemp survey.

The survey asks growers to prioritize areas where they could use better data, from irrigation strategies to temperature management.

Researchers say they’re looking for advice from people growing hemp outdoors as well as those growing in indoor environments such as greenhouses and warehouses.

The study will help inform research on the priorities and needs of companies that grow hemp – including propagation, production, pest and disease management and marketing needs.

The data will also guide what’s offered by that state’s extension service, a government-funded agency that advises rural areas of profitable farming techniques.
