A Pennsylvania hemp facility has been shut down by local authorities after its owners allegedly ignored code requirements.
The drying warehouse in Jeannette, about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh, is owned by Colorado-based Patriot Shield, a security and transportation company that serves both hemp and marijuana clients. Patriot Shield also offers storage and warehouse services.
The Jeannette facility was ordered closed Thursday by city officials who say the warehouse sparked odor complaints and missed a Nov. 2 deadline to comply with code requirements including better exit lighting, The Tribune-Review reported.
Patriot Shield’s facility in Western Pennsylvania had challenges before the cease-and-desist order.
Meanwhile, a group of workers protested and picketed the site earlier this month. The employees said the company gave them pay stubs but no money in their accounts. The workers accused Patriot Shield of threatening to fire them if they wouldn’t work without pay.
Andrew Englund, Patriot Shield’s Pennsylvania director, told The Tribune-Review that the company was “a little late on payroll, so we’ve got some disgruntled employees.”
Company executives did not immediately respond to phone calls and emails from Hemp Industry Daily.
