The cannabis industry’s largest B2B event, MJBizCon 2024, wrapped up another dynamic week in Las Vegas, cementing its role as a pivotal gathering for professionals seeking to shape the future of cannabis. From insightful panels to vibrant after-parties, the event underscored a shift in focus toward strategic opportunities and long-term resilience as the industry matures.
This year’s conference attracted tens of thousands of attendees, offering a mix of education, networking, and product debuts. While the trade show floor was less crowded than in previous years, the energy of the attendees reflected a shift toward quality engagements. Entrepreneurs and executives were laser-focused on building key relationships and acquiring the tools necessary to navigate an evolving marketplace.
One of the more unique dynamics this year came from MJBizCon overlapping with the National Finals Rodeo, as the two events shared Las Vegas’s bustling stage. Despite their contrasting roots, the increasing importance of hemp in agricultural markets has bridged gaps between these communities. Discussions on the intersection of hemp and cannabis highlighted new opportunities in regions like Texas and other traditionally non-cannabis markets.
Federal cannabis policy was a recurring theme, with the upcoming DEA hearings on rescheduling cannabis capturing widespread attention. “The industry is bracing for change, but it’s also preparing to thrive in the face of uncertainty,” said Paul Nieboer, COO of retail outfitter Temeka Group.
A notable addition this year was “The Vault,” a space dedicated to showcasing cannabis genetics and seeds. Renowned breeders and companies launched new collaborations and products, including a landmark merger between seed giants Barney’s Farm, I Love Growing Marijuana, and Sensi Seeds.
Beyond the convention floor, high-profile events like the Sky High rooftop party allowed for focused and productive networking. The intimate environment encouraged deal-making and relationship-building in a way that larger trade show interactions often cannot.
MJBizCon 2024 showcased an industry at a crossroads, balancing cautious optimism with the drive to innovate and expand. From emerging markets to regulatory shifts, the cannabis community continues to plant the seeds for a promising future.
