Texas continues its purple transformation.
A new poll shows that 55% of Texans either support or strongly support the legalization of recreational marijuana in the state. This is more evidence that marijuana is transcending its place in politics and becoming a no-brainer for either party.
In terms of medical use, the number of Texans in support or strongly support is 72%. This is already legal in the state for some diseases, which was expanded last year for all forms of post-traumatic stress and cancer.
Governor Abbott is pretty staunchly against the legalization of weed in the state, however he would be in favor of reducing the penalty to a Class C misdemeanor, as opposed to a Class B–which it is now. Class B misdemeanors are punishable with up to 180 days in jail and a fine of $2,000. Any possession of more than 4 ounces in the state is a felony.
