A Florida company is recalling a batch of CBD oil voluntarily after a state agency tested the product and found that it contained dangerous levels of lead.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services tested a random sample of Summitt Labs’ Kore Organic Watermelon CBD Oil Tincture, which showed the product to contain 4.7 parts per million (ppm) of lead.
Summitt Labs, a Tampa-based CBD maker, issued an immediate voluntary recall for Batch#730 Lot#K018 of Kore Organic Watermelon CBD Oil Tincture at the consumer level, began an internal investigation and notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which posted the company announcement on its agency website.
The company had a sample of the product tested at an ISO-accredited lab, which found lead results of 0.5ppm. This level is within Florida’s legal lead limits; however, because of the FDACS test, the company initiated and plans to complete a full recall for the batch and lot in cooperation with the FDA and state regulators.
Ingesting the product could result in high lead exposure, which could lead to acute lead poisoning, according to the Florida Department of Health.
Prior to the product recall, Summitt Labs had no previous complaints or reports of adverse effects from the use of the product, the company said in its announcement.
The company is notifying distributors and customers to ensure the return of all recalled products.
