Unlike many of the chain cannabis retailers popping up across the province, Green Earth Cannabis is an independently owned outlet.
Co-owner Jason Marshall had previously worked as a journeyman welder in the oil and gas industry. In 2014, he was laid off from his job of 17 years amidst Alberta’s economic downturn.
Later, Marshall and his wife and co-owner Irene Struc visited the Calgary Franchise Show where their vision of entering the cannabis industry was conceived. Rather than buy into a chain, the couple decided to create their own space and now own one of Calgary’s largest cannabis stores.

“We went from basically nothing—just an idea—to getting to this point where we built everything ourselves and had a bunch of great people helping us bring all the little details together,” Struc told the Calgary Herald.
