Massachusetts Recreational Cannabis Sales Cleared for Launch

More than two years after Massachusetts voters legalized cannabis in the state, regulators have officially given the OK for two retail stores to open their doors next week.

The Northampton store has announced it will open for adult-use sales on Tuesday.

Two shops—New England Treatment Access (NETA), in Northampton, and Cultivate, in Leicester—were authorized by the state Cannabis Control Commission on Friday to begin selling medical cannabis. The permission takes effect in three calendar days.

NETA, the Northampton store, has announced it will open for adult-use sales beginning on Tuesday. Cultivate has yet to announce an opening date, the Associated Press reports, but earlier rumblings indicated the two stores could open on the same day.

Dozens of other existing medical dispensaries are in the process of securing licenses to begin recreational sales and are expected to open in coming weeks.
