Marijuana at Farmers’ Markets in NYC?

New York has too much weed. This has been apparent since the extremely slow rollout of new business licenses, and has caused a surplus that Bloomberg reported at a value of $750 million last November.

So the state is trying something new by granting approval to growers and retailers to set up some tables and sell weed at “non-storefront locations”. It’s a pilot program, and will take about a month to set up, but this is could be a really fresh outlet for cultivators who have been completely bottlenecked in the state.

However, it may not be enough to counteract just how much unsold product there is out there.

One retailer spoke to NYup.com and said, “I think it’ll be a good thing to do, but I don’t think it’s going to solve the issue and bail out the farmers for all that cannabis that’s been pretty much sitting in storage.”

Hopefully New York will be able to come up with more interesting ideas like this one to keep the industry in their state afloat as they crawl towards opening more dispensaries.
