9 Ways to Celebrate a 420 Halloween in Las Vegas

9 Ways to Celebrate a 420 Halloween in Las Vegas

It’s hard to find a better place to spend Halloween than Las Vegas. Just like every other day of the year, everyone wants to dress up in a wild outfit, let loose, and find a good party. With more than a full year of recreational cannabis behind us, Halloween is better than ever, although Nevada still has a complicated relationship with herb.

Looking for cannabis before the scares? Check menus nearby.

Anyone over 21 can buy it, but public consumption is still a legal no-no. So plan wisely. Have fun, be responsible, and pre-install a ride-sharing app on your phone.

Halloween falls on a Wednesday this year, prompting plenty of sales, activities, and sinister excitement all week long. Here’s a look at how to stay busy and enjoy some 420-related fun with the spooky holiday.

Dress Up and Explore Fremont Street

After picking out the perfect costume, you’ll want to snap an endless supply of photos for Halloween night. Stop by Cannabition, a first-of-its kind art installation that represents the shifting tide of cannabis culture in Sin City. Pose next to a giant bag of weed, an oversized joint, or the world’s largest bong for a selfie worthy of an instant Instagram upload.

Cannabition is inside the Neonopolis, an open-air retail plaza that’s just steps away from the Fremont Street Experience. The five-block pedestrian mall is overloaded with all sorts of visual stimulation, from vintage neon marquees above the casinos to the massive overhead LED video canopy. From October 26 to October 31, Fremont Street will host Rock of Horror, which includes roaming entertainers, performers, and a Halloween night costume contest with cash prizes. Don’t forget — Just like all public spaces, 420 consumption is against the law, but Fremont Street offers plenty of welcome fresh air when not huffing on your vape pen.

Check-in to a Haunted Hotel

While you won’t see anything official on paper, Artisan Hotel Boutique has a reputation for being 420-friendly—within reason. Just off the Strip, this gothic-themed resort is adults-only and built its reputation on a thriving after-hours scene with a late-night ultra-lounge and outdoor patio. Known for topless sunbathing by day and attracting swingers at night, Artisan is definitely open-minded about alternative lifestyles. The boutique hotel is small—a stylish place with a lot of character that doesn’t draw too much attention to itself.

On October 31, the entire hotel is taking part in Cocktail City’s Haunted Hotel Party. A poolside stage will feature live music and an open bar will serve complimentary drinks between 10 and 11 p.m. featuring Absolut, Malibu, Jameson, and beer from Golden Road Brewing. Prizes will be awarded to those with the sexiest and best overall costumes. The party is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. and will likely go all night long.

Nevada has some funny laws about edibles. For example, cake pops aren’t allowed but cake bites without a stick are just fine. Don’t think about it too hard, especially since Essence Vegas is offering 20 percent off all edibles through October 31. That includes gummies, chocolate bars, cookies, and brownies to pacify your holiday sweet tooth. The discount is good at all three locations, including 5765 West Tropicana, 4300 East Sunset in Henderson, and by the North end of the Strip at 2307 South Las Vegas Boulevard.

Reef Dispensaries is offering a “Tryke or Treat” Halloween deal on October 31 at all of its Nevada locations, including its large flagship outlet near the Strip at 3400 Western. Select flavors of Tryke Gummies are four for $20 while supplies last.

Shop at Shango on “Wicked Wednesday,” October 31, and get 25 percent off “almost everything” in the store all day long. Exceptions include Shango Easy, special pricing flower, and pre-rolls. Shango, at 4380 Boulder Highway, is a good choice for those in the east valley or Henderson.

The Apothecary Shoppe has a strong reputation for gourmet-style edibles, thanks to the work of Marisela Retana, a former pastry chef on the Strip. For the Halloween season, she’s come up with infused pumpkin spice cake bites and a caramel sauce for dipping your own apples. Her famous three-tier custom celebration cakes can be made to order and usually require at least a week’s notice. Call 1-833-GOT-HERB to inquire about availability in time for Halloween.

Laugh at Chucky on the Big Screen

On the night before Halloween, October 30, Sinnerama is screening the original Child’s Play featuring killer doll Chucky at 8 p.m. inside the Brenden Theaters at the Palms. It will be presented with live headset commentary by a pair of well-prepared comedians, making this a million times better than watching at home on Blu-Ray.

Tickets are just $20 and it’s recommended you buy ’em in advance. The Sinnerama concept debuted last month with the Vegas classic Showgirls, and unlike the movie itself, earned rave reviews. A one-hour happy hour begins at 7 p.m. and admission includes a complimentary drink featuring New Amsterdam vodka. Of course, you’re not allowed to light up inside the theater, so get your buzz going well in advance. Did we mention the seats recline?
